My friends and I talk about hair...a lot! During one of our conversations about hair, my friend mentioned to me that her hair is extremely soft. I was wondering, well what's wrong with soft hair, but she then included that her hair is not only too soft, but it doesn't have the same amount of body and bounce that it had before, and it no longer holds a curl.
My friend, we'll just call her A, is a heat-styled natural. We've been working on her regimen and have noticed that coconut oil grows her hair like a weed! She's also lessened the frequency in which she uses heat on her hair. She has admitted to using heat, maybe, twice a month. "A" uses a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, doesn't use the no-no ingredients, does the pre-poo method, and wraps her hair for protection. Her hair regimen has been pretty solid for over a year now and because of that, her hair health is thriving! I've given you this background because I could not, for the life of me, figure out why her hair was having issues when her regimen was pretty good. From my research, "A" is in need of a protein treatment...
There are two sure tell signs to know when your hair is in need of added protein:
- if your hair is suddenly dry and brittle
if your hair is suddenly gummy and/or stretchy, or limp and lacks body and bounce
Remedy: If this issue is mild, try using Organic Root Stimulator's Replenishing Pac (which is viewed as a mild protein treatment). If you've used this conditioner already and still don't notice a change, try something stronger, like Aphogee's Protein Treatment. Some people suggest clarifying your hair by shampooing with a clarifying shampoo or by doing an ACV rinse. If you have a conditioner at home that you prefer to use, but still want added protein, add two eggs into the conditioner. Hope this helps
